Introducing Liminal: Handpan Explorations—a sample library of meticulously recorded steel handpan (also known as hang or hang drum).
The library is built on our new Polyrhythms engine, which allows you to create complex polyrhythmic patterns synchronized to the project’s tempo by simply layering notes. The instrument was recorded with meticulous detail to capture not only its timbre and natural reverberation but also subtle nuances of performance, such as hand touches and mallet strikes.
In addition to phrase-based polyrhythmic samples, the library includes aleatoric and textural performances—”clusters.” These are ideal for creating naturalistic pads that add an element of unpredictability and creative imperfection to a composition, bringing organic details impossible to achieve from synthesized sources.
The library also includes six single-hit articulations played with hands, fingers, and mallets. Each articulation features 42 velocity layers, conveying subtle tonal changes from soft to powerful strikes.
The interface allows you to layer, mix, and reverse articulations. The Crossfade Gizmo allows for seamless blending of sound layers using intuitive color coding. LFOs can be activated, allowing your DAW’s tempo to control the volume modulation of each individual layer. This opens up the possibility of tempo-synced swells and provides even more creative freedom in creating dynamically evolving textures.
